When Guru Nanak Dev ji Was quite young his father Mehta Kalyan Das gave him sum of 20rs and tell him to buy a items for trade purposes. His father also aske him to do sacha sauda. At that time 20rs was a big amount. When Guru Nanak Dev ji reach market he saw large group of hungry sadhu under the tree . They are hungry from the past few days. Guru Nanak Purchase a meal of 20rs which was given by his father and gave all meal to hungry sadhu . when Guru Nanak reach home then his father said that what did he did with that 20rs then Guru Nanak tell everything which is happened in the market. After listening Guru Nanak Mehta Kalyandas angry on him then Guru Nanak Dev JI said that feeding hungry ones is sacha sauda according to him.

Concept of evolve from here and now each and every gurudwara of world there was a langar for each and every person  who want to eant whether he or she was of any religion or caste or poor or rich anyone can eat langar at gurudwara sahib by sitting in pangat.
